Summary
The Christian National Trade Union (CNV) stands up for strong worker rights. With the BGV Paycheck app, easily track your trips and hours. Your salary, expenses, and allowances are calculated based on this data. At the end of the month, you can verify your paycheck against your payslip.
The Challenge
Transport drivers need to track hours, overtime, shifts, and breaks to ensure accurate pay. Our goal was to create a streamlined experience that allows users to easily monitor their earnings, enhancing trust and satisfaction at CNV while attracting new members.
The team included a Product Owner, Project Manager, two Engineers, and myself as the Product Designer. My role was to design the best possible experience for future users of this new tool.
Empathize
I immersed myself into the lives of transport drivers, uncovering their frustrations with manual time tracking, the confusing collective labor agreement (CAO), and the challenges of adapting to digital tools. These pain points highlighted the need for a more user-friendly and reliable solution.
Problem statement
"Transport drivers need an accurate and user-friendly way to track their work hours and verify their salaries because current manual methods are error-prone, hard to check and time-consuming."
A first draft
We developed an interactive low-fidelity prototype of the app and conducted usability testing with 3 participants. The prototype included:
- Account setup: Get the user’s data so that we have one side of the calculations ready and correct.
- Logging options: giving the users all the options they need in a clear way.
- Salary Check: Detailed breakdown of hours worked, rates, and total pay.

The first flow to target was the Logging options:
Iterate on feedback
Feedback from usability testing highlighted the need for:
- More overview and fewer steps to log hours.
- Clearer visual indicators for logging status (e.g., active, paused).
- Enhanced data privacy features to protect sensitive information.

A system to build on
In my hands-on work, I was dedicated to setting the strategy and visual tone for the product, ensuring that every element communicated clearly and effectively. By blending business goals, market insights, and close collaboration with brand teams, I helped evolve the product in a way that eliminated user confusion.
Guiding Design with Feedback
As we iterated on feedback from user tests, we continuously refined both the user journeys and the design. We incorporated new elements into the design system while keeping the main flows in focus to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. This iterative approach allowed us to adapt quickly to user needs and maintain a cohesive design. By aligning new additions with our core objectives, we ensured that each update enhanced the overall user experience.
